Thankfully it never breaks down but no warning lights or anything.

Did you find a cause at all? Just thinking it might be a amplified version of my issue

My engine has no or poor spark, I seem to get one spark at the very end of cranking the engine. The problem is I have no manual and no registration number which most car part dealers need to get the right part, so I’m hoping to find what if any car the engine is from, or where I can get a manual.
Thanks

I am a proud Nissan Micra owner of a K11 (1999 plate) and a K12 (57 plate.) We have just got the K12, only done 30k on the clock, drives a dream but makes a funny noise when engine idly running. It's like someone had started a fairly quiet mini power hose under the bonnet. It lasts for about 5 seconds then stops, then starts again, etc. Have no idea what it is. Any suggestions??
Jay.

My bubble shape , 2nd Gen ? 1.0 litre started rattling on the timing chain and I swapped with a standard kit myself . I have just bought a 2004 , slope shape , 3rd gen ? I got for a cheap price , a trade in car . I am buying to teach daughters how to drive , want to save my Fiat Multipla Workhorse clutch ! Multipla clutches are not the strongest of things but being a HGV driver , I should be able to nurse along , it's fine at the moment . Changed two anyway , when time comes .

This 04 has got a stretched timing chain , apparently a common fault on these model Micras ...... I just wanted to know if there is any kit that is recommended ? Or do the same as my Bubble shape and get a kit off eBay UK ? To be honest the engine looks the same as my 1.0 ltr bubble one ?

   All advice appreciated
All the best and happy driving
Kevin - Worcester / Midlands

I have a 2004 1.2 Nissan Micra and by and large when it is running, it works well though usually only used for short local trips of a few miles.

However a few weeks ago, on a longer than average journey - about 20 miles - the engine started to splutter and then cut out completely. No overheating, no water loss, oil fine. Everything else (power, lights etc) all fine too.

After making a phone call (a few minutes), I tried again on the off chance it would work and it fired up perfectly, I drove home and checked for loose connections to plugs etc the next day. It then seemed to be fine - though no faults found.

On the next longer journey, much the same happened, but this time, after a few minutes, it would only splutter and not re-start. it was only an hour or so later that the engine would fire up and run properly to get me home.

I have checked plugs - all seemed fine but replaced anyway, leads replaced and petrol tank around half full - HOWEVER it did run out completely before the problems started.

It *seems* like the problem is fuel starvation but I am confused as to why a pump would work perfectly to start and then stop after about 15 minutes - or why a filter could be blocked and then work again later.

It also runs roughly when accelerating hard or trying to climb a hill after the engine has been running a few minutes. Gentle driving or even under load when first switched on is fine.

Is there anything else that people could suggest I look at please - as the mechanics idea of just trying things and replacing them until it works will end up costing more than my little car is worth.

Any ideas would be very welcome, many thanks

Steve.
